In some cases, yes, but you should know exactly what you are trading off. Acceptable when: the machine sits in an air-conditioned control room without vibration or conductive dust; a few hours of downtime does not affect production; only USB and LAN are needed; quantities are small and identical clones are not needed later. Common risks when taking a mini PC onto the shop floor: 1. The operating range is often only about 0…35 °C or not stated at all; a cabinet in summer easily exceeds it. 2. Power via a 12 or 19 V adapter with a barrel plug that loosens easily, and no direct 24 VDC input from the cabinet. 3. Consumer SSD and RAM without power-loss protection. 4. Fanless versions often cool poorly inside a closed cabinet. 5. Components and BIOS versions change constantly, so a unit bought a year later may be quite different. 6. No COM or DIO ports, and USB adapters added instead tend to drop out. If you still use one, test it under real conditions for a few weeks and keep a spare ready.
