We want to add RAM and fit a larger SSD ourselves. Does opening the machine void the warranty?

It depends on the vendor and product line, so ask before opening. Many industrial machines have a dedicated service cover for RAM, SSD and 4G modules, and vendors allow users to work there. By contrast, removing the main housing, taking off heatsink plates or breaking a warranty seal usually affects the vendor warranty. The model's manual states which parts users may replace. When upgrading yourself: 1. Match the standard: DDR4 or DDR5 SO-DIMM, speed and maximum capacity per slot; the SSD must match the M.2 slot protocol and length. 2. New parts must match the machine's temperature range. Fitting consumer RAM or SSD in a wide-temp machine lowers the range of the whole machine. 3. ESD precautions: wear a grounded wrist strap, switch off and disconnect power. 4. Fanless machines: put thermal pads back in the correct position if removed. The simplest approach is to fix the RAM and SSD configuration at quotation, so the machine arrives already matching your needs.
