Choosing a machine

Our cabinet is outdoors in Binh Duong and can reach 60 °C inside during summer. Can a fanless Atom machine handle that, or do we need a wide-temp model?

The temperature range in a datasheet is the air temperature around the machine at full load, and many vendors add a condition of minimum airflow (often 0.7 m/s). A sealed cabinet in direct sun typically runs 15–25 °C hotter than outside air, so 60 °C inside is a level you must design for rather than estimate. Three steps, in order: 1. Pick a model rated -20…60 °C or -40…70 °C with the exact CPU you plan to use. Cincoze (DS, DE) and Advantech (ARK) fanless lines have such versions; within one line, different CPU generations have different ranges. 2. Read the attached conditions. Many machines only hold 60 °C with an industrial SSD fitted and with the CPU throttling when hot. Consumer SSDs are usually rated 0–70 °C and lose endurance quickly near that limit. 3. Lower the cabinet temperature before lowering your requirements for the machine: a sun shield, light-coloured enclosure, filtered fans, or a small cabinet cooler. A shield plus filtered fans is usually the cheapest fix. Send us the mounting location, cabinet size and the software you will run, and we will shortlist the in-stock models that meet that range.
