What to do

The machine is not booting, even though it powers on

  1. Listen for beeps at power-on — beep codes tell RAM faults from board faults
  2. Remove the RAM, clean the contacts and reseat it firmly — vibration works RAM loose over time
  3. With more than one module, test each module in each slot
  4. Clear the CMOS using the button or Clear CMOS jumper on the machine
  5. Remove all drives and expansion cards, leaving only CPU + 1 RAM module, then try
